Topic 1: Poetry Revisions

Wed Aug 21, 2002, 8:28 AM
In an effort to generate some more interaction between us, I thought it might be interesting to start using this journal as our own forum. Lately there have been a few interesting threads in the Poetry Forum, topics that are worthy enough to get more attention.

The first I'd like to discuss was started by houseofbacon concerning revisions. The original thread is here [link] but if you want to discuss this amongst ourselves, do so by clicking the "Read and post comments on this journal entry" button.

The topic, in houseofbacon's words: "Poetry is the expression of one's feelings, thoughts, or ideas through words. A common technique in this form of art is revision, which can include anything from grammatical corrections to word replacements, to the creation of completely new parts of a poem altogether. However, some people choose not to revise, in the belief that the art will be more pure and appreciated in it's raw form, however it comes out the first time is how it was meant to be. I myself prefer it unrevised in any way. You?"
